The Media Department have had an extremely exciting spring term. It started in April when we attended a very successful Media and Film career event at the unique UCL PEARL facility at the new Dagenham Film Studios. We took along the entire cohort of our current Year 12 and 13 Media students and our extremely eager KS3 BBC Young Reporters.
We spent the day looking at the different careers on offer in the media industry from camerawork and lighting to make-up and acting! Students had the opportunity to handle equipment at the various exhibition stalls and get a real feel for the kinds of opportunities that are available to them on their doorsteps.
Through this visit we began networking with a contact from a post-production house called The Assembly Rooms. From this initial meeting we arranged the department's biggest ever Industry Professionals Event.
On April 19th we invited five editors and editing producers from various post-production houses in London to Robert Clack to spend an afternoon giving talks, Q&As, demonstrations and advice to all our students.
The event was a brilliant success and proved to be a real turning point for many of our students who were able to get feedback on their work by industry professionals; some of which are award winning in their field.
The Industry Professionals Event was also an amazing opportunity for our BBC Young Reporters to practice their article writing, photography, camera work and interviewing skills! The whole afternoon worked to teach, inspire and connect. Media and Film students also had the opportunity to organise work experience which was an incredible additional experience for the students outside of the course. We look forward to hearing about their further adventures and successes, especially our Year 13s as they move onto the next stages in their academic pursuits and professional careers.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year and continuing to develop extra-curricular activities for our wonderful and creative students.
