On Thursday 18th June, our Year 13 Drama and Theatre class enjoyed a final theatre visit to celebrate the end of their course and the outstanding achievements they had made over the past two years. Despite many theatres remaining closed, they were fortunate to go and see a socially distanced performance of a new play J’Ouvert by Yasmin Joseph at the Harold Pinter Theatre in Leicester Square.
The performance itself was a very timely piece set during the Notting Hill Carnival, following three young working-class black friends as they attempt to assert their voices in a rapidly gentrified London. The students loved the stripped back production and strong female leads. The production has been recorded by the BBC and can be currently watched on BBC iPlayer.
It was a poignant farewell for the group, many of whom had studied GCSE Drama and also taken part in drama projects at Robert Clack from Year 7. It has been wonderful to see their progress and shared successes both in and out of lesson in productions such as Coram Boy, The Lion the Witch and Wardrobe and most recently The Threepenny Opera.
We can’t wait to restart Robert Clack Theatre Club and return to the theatre with other year groups once more restrictions are lifted!
