Despite the pandemic, Robert Clack has continued to develop its strong overseas partnerships in several Chinese schools. Overseas trips and cultural exchanges that were planned were put on hold and a new strategy was needed. Taking advantage of the newly developed remote learning skills that its teachers have acquired, Robert Clack is delivering lessons to several schools across China.
To date the school is delivering:
· A-level Maths to pupils at Chongqing Nanping Middle School
· KS3 Maths to pupils at Chongqing Nanping Experimental Primary School
· KS3 Art to pupils at Gaoxin Experimental Middle School in Hunan Province.
Robert Clack will also be hosting a remote education conference with our main partner school to strengthen cooperation and identity further areas, which are of mutual benefit to our school and the community.
The school was awarded a £15,000 grant from The British Council after being impressed with its ambitions for an exciting and innovative partnership with Chinese schools. This money will be used to fund a second trip to China for students in 2021-2022. It will give another group of Robert Clack pupils a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience new cultures, improve language skills, and build independence and resilience.
British Council research has found that just 39% of British secondary schools run traditional international exchanges, in comparison with more than three quarters (77%) of independent schools. A separate survey of university language students found that nearly two-thirds (62%) had been inspired to study a language degree as the result of an international exchange.
Links with Media, Business and Economics are currently being explored with the hope of setting up similar programmes in the next academic year.
