The Robert Clack Alumni Association in partnership with the Business Studies Department have been running an Entrepreneur Academy since October for Sixth Form students. The idea of this is to give students some tips and skills to think about running their own businesses in the future with guest speakers from the Alumni community.
The students had five different guest speakers:
Jack Wilson – Introduce and Inspire – Jack left Robert Clack in 2012 and has been running his own property maintenance business.
Farren Joseph – Marketing – Farren left Robert Clack in 2014 and is now a Business Studies Teacher and Head of Y12. Farren worked in Marketing before re-training to be a Teacher.
Tina Dulieu – Evaluating Ideas – Tina left Robert Clack in 1975 and was also a Maths Teacher at the School. She is now an award winning Business Coach.
Jamie Mason – Sales – Jamie left Robert Clack in 2008 and is now Agency Account Director at Clear Channel, a company that sells digital advertising space.
Emma Porter – Making An Impact Online – Emma left Robert Clack in 2015 and now works in Digital Marketing.
After sessions with each of these speakers the students were then given the following brief:
You are required to create a product or service suitable for 16-21 year olds. The product or service can be tailored to either male, female or both. The product or service can be an invention or an innovation. There is no specific budget however you will be required to research and record costs. Your product or service should be something that can be used by individuals who attend college or university.
Students then presented their ideas at a Dragon’s Den style event on Thursday 3rd March to a panel of Alumni guests including Jamie and Tina and also Gary White, Trustee of the Robert Clack Alumni Association and business owner.
The students made excellent presentations that were very professional – all the visitors were very impressed. Ideas included:
The winners were Mohima and Connor with their ‘Hotspot’ app. Joint runners up were Hemed, Ferdauzi, Sumya and Victor with their Smartwatch with SOS feature, ‘Poleox Hex’ and Minahil, Olivia and Hadia with 'Sturmfrei' a piece of jewellery with an app to obtain help if threatened when out late at night.
Our judges commented on the professionalism of the students, their presentations and their branding. Thank you to our alumni members for giving up their time and expertise. Well done all!
