At the crack of dawn on Thursday 14th October, 40 Year 11 GCSE RE pupils set off to visit Walsingham in Norfolk. Walsingham is a holy site of pilgrimage for Christians. The pupils were fortunate enough to take part in a Holy Mile walk, visit the Holy House and take in the beautiful Norfolk scenery! There was also an opportunity for pupils to light candles for their loved ones and celebrate all they have achieved. The Year 11s were extremely well behaved and respectful. This was the first time they had gone on a trip outside of London since Year 8 so it was such a refreshing experience post lockdown.
The students said:
Nuha 11E & Mardeeyha 11E - "As Muslims we felt very comfortable in a Christian place of worship, in our lessons with Mrs Doyle we are taught about pilgrimage and I think this will help me in an exam"
Taylor 11L - "The trip was very informative, it is one thing learning about the pilgrimage through you tube videos but seeing it in person is a different level"
David 11G - "As a Christian, I found this extremely educational and was able to reflect spiritually"
Well done to all the students who woke up early in the morning and came back to school late in the afternoon! We are so proud of you all. The whole journey really did put us in the shoes of the pilgrims themselves. Thank you to Alan and Pauline, our shrine tour guides for making the trip so enjoyable.
With Love,
Mrs Doyle-Jeffery, Mrs Prior & Miss Aktar
