On Tuesday 26th April 2022, pupils from across all three sites attended a large debating competition in London called the ‘Debate Mate Cup’. We took 2 teams of our debate society with us from Years 7 to Years 10. The day consisted of games and mini tournaments which were judged by high level University graduates. The topics of the motions were related to artificial intelligence, music as a bad influence and sports personalities political interests. Pupils also got to watch a show debate where prizes were handed out to floor speakers.
Overall it was an extremely intense day out filled with lots of public speaking. Robert Clack’s Debate Society came 5th place in the whole of London and our team won 5/6 rounds all together. This was a huge win considering everyone is a new debater and the club only started running again post pandemic. The bravery and diligence from these pupils was superb and some were fasting while leading their team to victory! They are excellent role models and friends to one another.
Don’t forget that everyone is welcome to debate club which is every Wednesday in Room 17 (Green Lane)!
