During the week of Monday 4th July, 28 of our Year 12 Biology pupils had the opportunity to visit the Trewern Outdoor Education Centre in Hay-on-Wye, Hereford, for the annual residential Biology field trip.
During the field trip, pupils were excellently engaged in opportunities such as rocky shore transect sampling and kick sampling in small stream and river systems. Pupils got up close and personal with a variety of ecosystems and species, ranging from limpets to freshwater shrimps, and can now expertly explain how these organisms are highly adapted to survival under different environmental conditions and how to estimate the population sizes of these species. On the final activity day, pupils became experts in various outdoor activities or sports, including BMX biking, archery and gorge walking, and left for home on Friday 8th July with many fond memories, technical skills and newfound friendships.
Despite a challenging week away from home, these Year 12 pupils have proven themselves to be worthy biologists ready to tackle the ecology modules they will study in Year 13 with hands on experience to support them.
