We were delighted that the much-anticipated trip to Hay-on-Wye, organised by Barking and Dagenham Council and Pen-to-Print, went ahead at the end of May. Year 10 students Eddie, Aimuavbosa and Ikponmwosa spent the weekend with other secondary-school students from local schools from the borough. The students bonded not only over a love of reading, but the fantastic opportunities that unravelled across the weekend, which included gorge walking and cascading down waterfalls, attending author workshops, exploring Hay village and writing at sunset in the beautiful grounds of Trewern Outdoor Education Centre, where the group were based. The day at the Hay festival saw students listen to lectures and workshops by writers Yvette Fielding, Natasha Bowen and Sophie McKenzie, to inspire their own writing. In the final hour of the festival, the students were determined to secure the best seats in the house (well, literary tent) to listen to Dame Jacqueline Wilson explain her remarkable journey from childhood to becoming one of Britain's best-loved children's authors. Robert Clack school would like to say a huge thank you to Barking and Dagenham Council, Pen-to-Print and the staff at Trewern for organising such a wonderful trip that our students will never forget.
Miss Twigg and Mr Norwood.
