The Beauty curriculum is designed to ultimately produce industry standard beauty therapists. The intent of the Beauty course at both KS4 and KS5 as a vocational course is to ensure that the pupils complete the course with the appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical skills to move into gainful employment or further education upon completion of the course. Over the 2 key stages the beauty course is broken into units and then broken further into practical and theoretical knowledge. VTCT criteria is used to ensure all subject matter is covered and this is directed from the industry.
At KS4 the pupils are taught the Level 1 course over 4 periods per week. The Level 1 course requires a total of 19 credits minimum to achieve a pass, this is made up of 3 mandatory units, as follows:

The intent and units that are taught at KS4 are chosen to enable the pupils to gain the foundation theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to move on the Level 2 course, which is taught full time in KS5.

At KS5 the pupils in Y12 are taught the Level 2 course on a full time basis. The level 2 course is the minimum expected level required for employment in the beauty industry. The course requires 54 credits minimum to achieve a pass, this is made up of 8 mandatory units as follows:

At KS5 the pupils in Y13 are taught the Level 3 course on a full time basis. The course requires 65 credits minimum to achieve a pass, this is made up of 6 mandatory units as follows:

The units chosen in both Year 12 and 13 are chosen with employability skills in mind and industry requirements.
The department also provides certificated courses that increase the pupil’s employability skills for example lash treatments, gel polish and lash lift.
The intent at KS5 is to ensure that pupils complete and pass the course with the appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical skills to either move into full time employment or on to further education.
