'I think all students should experience a mentoring session' Year 11 Student

'I think I have actually learnt how to revise and my time management has definitely improved. I feel like I can comprehend most things I get taught.'

Introduction

As part of our work in the Achieve Excellence and understanding the importance of students being supported as early as Year 7 to improve their learning behaviours when falling behind, we have a multi-structured mentoring provision that includes Full Time Mentors from Robert Clack and the National Tutoring Programme as well as using existing teaching staff (Form Tutors and KS5 tutors) to provide one to one support to students that need it.

Through a warm and welcoming learning environment, pupils are supported academically and pastorally so as to become equipped with the necessary interpersonal skills and qualities needed to become commendable citizens with their local communities and beyond so that they can thrive and fulfil their aspirations.  Students are actively taught how to:

·        develop routines and become organised

·        identify their strengths and weaknesses, monitor their progress and set targets

·        demonstrate resilience and self-discipline

·        develop their study skills inside and outside the classroom

This allows our students to build their confidence and develop the necessary skills to succeed in their studies.

  • Homework Club

There is at least one full time mentor based on each site every day and in addition to supporting pupils to excel in every subject are also aiming to supporting students to get organised and complete extra study in school by organising homework club before and after school as well as during breaks.
