The year 10 girls started the year off with nine days away in France, representing England. There were three other teams representing England, two boys and one girls all of which were private schools. We spent the time away at Pontlevoy Abbey, one of the oldest remaining schools in France.
The girls started their time away not playing rugby, but cooking a dish to represent where they come from. So of course the girls had to represent our local cuisine Kings chicken shop. The other teams couldn't get enough of their fried chicken and chips.
The next day the girls had a tough pool, going against top tier finalists New Zealand and two French schools. They then played against Wales, which was the decider for which team would make the semi final. They then faced yet another French team in the semi, which happened to be the host school so there was lots of support for the opposition. They managed to beat Pontlevoy in front of the huge crowd and then waited eagerly for their final against Scotland in the afternoon. The girls were on top form and played their socks off until the final whistle crowned them 'Development Cup' champions, beating the Scottish girls nine trys to one. This match was televised live on local French television, so they were under a lot of pressure from the start!
