About the subject
All students study the Cambridge Technical in IT.
The course provides specialist, work-related learning across a range of sectors. Delivering the knowledge, skills and understanding students need to prepare for their chosen career and offer progression to higher or further education or into employment.
On successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress into employment and/or continue their study in the same vocational area.
Cambridge Technical in IT focuses on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand. Students will practically apply their skills and knowledge in preparation for further study or the workplace.
This qualification aims to develop a student’s knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems. Students will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, and the flow of information on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations.
Students will also develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers, stakeholders and clients, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. These support the transferable skills required by universities and employers such as communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills.
Two course are available – a single and double award. The single award covers 5 units in 2 years. The double award covers 11 units in 2 years.
At the end of Year 12, the students sat two exams in the Fundamentals of IT and Global Information. In Year 13, they study 3 units, which will be assessed by coursework.
