About the subject

A level  Mathematics is designed to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills.

 

Entry requirements needed to study for the AS and A level Further Mathematics is a grade 7 to 9 at GCSE.

Paper 1: Pure Mathematics

Algebra, Trigonometry, Graphs and Transformations, Vectors, Exponential, Logarithms and Differentiation.

 

Written examination 2 hours

 

 

Paper 2: Statistics and Mechanics

Statistical Sampling, Data Presentation and Interpretation, Probability, Statistical Distributions, Statistical Hypothesis, Quantities and Units in Mechanics, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s Laws.

 

Written examination 1 hour

Edexcel

Paper 1: Pure maths

Proof, Algebra and Functions, Co-ordinate Geometry, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Differentiation, Integration, Vectors. Based on the fixed core content.  AS content assessed at A level standard.
