About the subject

A level Further Mathematics is designed to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills. It provides a stimulating experience for those students who enjoy Mathematics.

 

Entry requirements needed to study for the AS and A level Further Mathematics is a grade 7 to 9 at GCSE.

 

Year 12 Overview (New Spec)

Paper 1: Further Pure Mathematics

Proof, Complex numbers, Matrices, Further algebra and functions, Further calculus, Further vectors

 

Written examination 1.5 hours

 

Paper 2: Decision Mathematics

Algorithms and graph theory, Algorithms on graphs, Critical path analysis, Linear programming

 

Written examination 1.5 hours

 

 

Year 13 Overview (Spec)

Paper 1: Further Pure Mathematics 1

Based on the fixed core content AS content assessed at A level standard.

Written examination 1.5 hours

 

 

Paper 2: Further Pure Mathematics 2

Based on the fixed core content Remaining pure content which builds on and incorporates AS content.

Written examination 1.5 hours

 

 

Paper 3: Further Mathematics Option 1

Students take one of the following four options:

• Further Pure

• Further Statistics

• Further Mechanics

• Decision Maths

Written examination 1.5 hours

 

Paper 4: Further Mathematics Option 2

Students take one of the following four options:

• Further Pure

• Further Statistics

• Further Mechanics

• Decision Maths
