As well as the work completed in lessons, students also have many opportunities to participate and develop their skills in many school drama projects throughout the year.
The Robert Clack Drama department produces a whole school production each year involving students from all year groups. Past productions include A Christmas Carol (2013) Grimm Tales (2014), Macbeth and The Tempest (2015) which linked Drama with both the Music and Art departments.
We have most recently performed 'Coram Boy' and the video highlights can be viewed below.
Robert Clack Theatre Club
The Robert Clack Theatre Club offers students the opportunity to visit the theatre regularly throughout the year. As well as gaining a strong cultural understanding from these visits, Drama students are able to develop a critical awareness of drama and theatre and often reference these visits in their studies.
Forthcoming 2017-2018 theatre visits will include Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe, Amadeus at National Theatre and Caroline or Change at Hampstead Theatre.
Students have recently completed a project with Studio 3 Arts as part of the Cultural Citizens scheme, giving students the opportunity to research and visit theatres and galleries across London and the local area. Students used this experience as a way of achieving their Bronze Arts Award.
Theatres we have regularly worked with include The Old Vic Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe, where students have seen live theatre and taken part in workshops to build on their understanding.
Students have also performed in various theatres outside of the school, including the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford as part of The Schools Shakespeare Festival 2015 where they performed William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
We have been very proud to be a part of Fin Kennedy’s Schoolwrights, a scheme linking schools with professional playwrights. This resulted in students working with professional playwright, Jane Wainwright, to develop a short play that was subsequently performed at both Rich Mix in Shoreditch and Soho Theatre.
